Ayumi Hamasaki seems more like a commcial product to me where Namie Amuro displays more of herself in her performances. Singing wise I think they both have a good range and are on par with each other.

Oh wow! I'm a big fan of both :)

I started to listen to Namie in 2005 and got all her albums. And in 2009 i started with Ayu and I love her, too. I was always on Namie's side, but now I like both. They're both genius and deserve their success. My fav Namie songs are: So Crazy, Can you Celebrate? Want Me, Want Me... and many others :) As for Ayu, love all her greatest hits.
